How Long Does it Take to Enroll in the Self-Determination Program?

I get this question a lot. How long does it take to enroll in the Self-Determination Program? This can vary but I typically advise to give yourself a 6 - 9 month window. This longer time frame estimate is strictly based on the fact that many Financial Management Services (FMS) are currently experiencing a large influx of clients and they have waitlists. Sometimes there is a three month wait to enroll with the FMS.

The wait lists for the Financial Management Services are predicted to change though as more of them become vendors with The Regional Centers. When this happens it will be a quicker process to transition to SDP. It would be more like a three month estimate.

When you work with an Independent Facilitator your transition to the program will be easier, and move along quickly, as you will receive all the information and support to complete each step in the process. I also advise my clients to get on waitlists early and help them accomplish this. Part of the way I support my clients, and their families, is to help ensure that the process of enrollment can move along with no delays.
